Olean police apprehend armed suspect without incident following disturbance

OLEAN — At approximately 6:35 p.m. on April 3, the Olean Police Department responded to a report of an armed disturbance at 124 N Barry St, Apartment 5.

According to the police, a male subject was acting erratically and waving a gun around, prompting immediate action from both Olean Police and New York State Police.

Officers established a secure perimeter around the area to protect community safety.

Dispatch provided a description of the suspect, and officers witnessed a male matching this description exiting the apartment building.

The individual, identified as Nathan A. Karns, 31, of Little Genesee, was taken into custody without incident.

Karns was found in possession of a handgun and was transported to the Olean Police Department for processing.

He has been charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, felony reckless endangerment 1st degree, menacing 2nd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Karns was arraigned and subsequently remanded to Cattaraugus County Jail in Little Valley.
