CORTLAND — A homeless man was arrested Thursday after fleeing a traffic stop and was found in possession of drugs valued at approximately $7,800, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael T. Rogers, 56, was apprehended in the City of Cortland following a vehicle and traffic stop conducted by the Cortland County Drug Task Force and sheriff’s deputies on Clinton Street.

Officers reported that Rogers did not comply with police orders and fled the scene.

He continued to Hubbard Street, where he parked and attempted to escape on foot.

Authorities quickly located and apprehended Rogers, who was found with 199 grams of methamphetamine, 31.5 grams of cocaine, 181 wax envelopes of fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials, and an unspecified amount of U.S. currency.

Rogers was arrested and charged with several felonies, including criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second and third degrees, tampering with physical evidence, and multiple misdemeanors, such as resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.

He was arraigned Thursday evening through the Centralized Arraignment Process and remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

Rogers’ next court date is scheduled for April 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the City of Cortland Court.
