ESSEX — On March 28 at approximately 8:57 p.m., Essex Police responded to an incident on Rotunda Avenue where a homeowner confronted an unknown male entering unlocked vehicles in their driveway.
The suspect fled on foot headed east on Edgewood Drive, leaving behind a backpack, which was seized by Essex Police as abandoned property.
Investigation of the backpack’s contents led to the identification of other victims on neighboring streets and the suspect, Charles Ring, 34, from Winooski.
Essex Police discovered Ring had an active arrest warrant for a parole board violation.
Based on the locations of the larcenies, the direction Ring fled, and the proximity to the Champlain Valley Exposition (CVE), police suspected Ring might be camping on CVE grounds.
On April 5 at approximately 9:40 p.m., Ring was located on CVE grounds and arrested on the parole warrant without incident.
He was also served a citation to appear in Chittenden Superior Court for multiple counts of unlawful trespass into a motor vehicle and petit larceny from a motor vehicle.
Ring was transported to Northwest State Correctional Facility where he was held on the parole warrant.
