BRANDON — Vermont State Police arrested a man suspected of stabbing a local restaurant owner following a manhunt that lasted several hours Saturday night.

Jozef I. Eller, 32, of Hancock was located and arrested in Rochester at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Eller was taken into custody without incident, according to authorities.

Police are working with the Rutland County State’s Attorney’s Office on charges, which have not yet been announced.

The arrest came less than six hours after Eller allegedly attacked chef and restaurant owner Robert Barral, 71, at Café Provence in Brandon.

According to police, Eller, a former employee of the restaurant, entered the establishment around 4:30 p.m. and assaulted Barral.

After the attack, Eller fled northbound on U.S. Route 7 in a white 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Barral was transported by ambulance to Rutland Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

During the search, authorities had warned the public that Eller should be considered extremely dangerous and advised people not to approach him.
