BROWNINGTON — Police are searching for a driver who struck and seriously injured a 64-year-old Derby man Saturday night on Route 5A in Brownington.
Rickey Laprade was found lying in the southbound lane around 9:16 p.m. after several motorists reported a vehicle traveling below the speed limit and swerving, according to Vermont State Police.
Investigators determined Laprade had parked his car in the northbound lane, exited the vehicle, and was struck while standing in the southbound lane by a car that fled the scene.
Laprade, who police say showed signs of impairment, was taken to North Country Hospital with serious injuries and processed for driving under the influence.
He was expected to be transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center.
Evidence collected at the scene suggests the hit-and-run vehicle is likely a black 2015-2017 Subaru WRX or STI with damage to its front passenger-side bumper, wheel well, and mirror.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Anthony Rice at 802-334-8881.
