SHAFTSBURY — A North Carolina man escaped injury after his vehicle crashed into trees along U.S. Route 7 during rainy conditions Saturday afternoon.

Vermont State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash near mile marker 16.4 in Shaftsbury at 2:29 p.m. on April 5.

Aaron Jamal Sexton-Abdullah, 23, of Troutman, N.C., lost control of his 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe on the rain-covered roadway, according to police.

The vehicle veered off the road and collided with a group of trees.

Sexton-Abdullah was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which police said likely prevented injuries.

The Hyundai was totaled in the collision.

Shaftsbury Fire Department, Bennington Rescue Squad, and Walt’s Towing and Service assisted state police at the scene.

No civil violations were issued in connection with the crash.
