BOSTON — A routine traffic stop for an expired registration led to the arrest of a man on multiple firearm charges early Sunday morning in Dorchester, according to Boston police.
Officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) pulled over a vehicle traveling inbound on Columbia Road at approximately 1:00 a.m. after noticing an expired registration decal.
The driver, identified as Christopher Andrade, 35, of Whitman, was informed his vehicle would be towed due to the expired registration.
Police said that as Andrade exited the vehicle, officers observed him attempting to conceal a fanny pack that had been on his lap.
According to the police report, Andrade became confrontational and turned away from officers when told he would be frisked.
After a brief struggle, officers detained Andrade and searched the fanny pack, where they discovered a loaded Taurus 709 Slim firearm.
The weapon contained one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine, police said.
Andrade faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, resisting arrest, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
