Ogdensburg man arrested in ghost gun manufacturing bust

OGDENSBURG — A six-month investigation culminated Thursday with the arrest of a local man accused of manufacturing ghost guns at his residence.

Patrick Murphy, 39, was taken into custody after authorities executed a search warrant at a home on Covington Street on April 3.

The operation was led by the Special Investigations Unit – Marcy, Gun Trafficking Interdiction Unit.

Investigators recovered seven handguns and three AR-style assault rifles, all classified as ghost guns, from the residence.

Authorities also seized a 3D printer, multiple 3D printed lower handgun receivers and rifle frames, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and numerous 3D printed high-capacity magazines in various calibers.

Additional items confiscated included miscellaneous gun parts, computers and other electronic devices allegedly associated with the manufacturing of ghost guns.

Murphy faces charges of criminal possession of a firearm in the first degree, a class B felony; criminal possession of a firearm in the third degree, a class D felony; and criminal possession of a firearm in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.

He was ordered held at the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

Murphy is scheduled to appear in Ogdensburg City Court on April 8 at 10 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected, according to authorities.
