MIDDLETOWN — The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation announced the arrest of a 57-year-old Middletown man on April 4 following a months-long investigation into an alleged union membership scam.
Armando J. Alarcon has been charged with Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree and Scheme to Defraud in the 1st Degree, both Class E Felonies.
Investigators say Alarcon posed as a representative of the Ironworkers Local 580 Union and told victims he could facilitate their membership for a fee.
After collecting payment, Alarcon allegedly provided victims with projected start dates but then cut off communication.
Alarcon was taken into custody on April 4 and issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Wallkill Court on April 16 at 9 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who believes they may have been defrauded by Alarcon to contact the SP Middletown BCI at 845-344-5300.
