CLARKSTOWN — Officers from the Clarkstown Police Department arrested a Stony Point man on multiple weapons charges after finding him with a stolen handgun while responding to a trespassing complaint at an apartment complex.
On April 2 at approximately 12:45 p.m., police responded to reports of three males trespassing and smoking marijuana in the laundry room of the New City Garden Apartments, located at 160 N Main St.
Upon arrival, officers observed the three males sitting on washing machines while smoking marijuana.
A warrant check revealed that one of the individuals, Julio Martinez, 24, of Stony Point, had an active warrant from Dutchess County for weapon possession.
Officers handcuffed and searched Martinez, discovering a loaded 9mm magazine in his vest pocket.
A search of the area where Martinez had been sitting led to the recovery of a SIG semi-automatic handgun, which was determined to be the same weapon reported stolen to the Clarkstown Police Department by the registered owner a week earlier.
The other two males were interviewed by detectives and subsequently released.
Martinez now faces multiple charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices.
Following his arraignment in Clarkstown Justice Court, Martinez’s bail was set at $10,000 cash, $20,000 bond, or $40,000 partially secured bond.
He was transferred to the Rockland County Jail after the arraignment.
