SCHODACK — A 71-year-old Albany man surrendered to police Wednesday after being charged with sex offenses against a 13-year-old boy at a convenience store in Castleton.

Salah Osman was arrested April 2 by the Schodack Police Department on misdemeanor charges stemming from an investigation that began in October 2024.

Police responded to “The Store” at 1 South Main Street in Castleton on Oct. 29, 2024, after receiving a report that a 13-year-old male had been inappropriately touched by a store clerk.

Investigators applied for an arrest warrant after learning Osman had left the country following the incident.

Authorities were notified in late March that Osman had returned to the United States, at which point he surrendered himself to police.

Osman faces charges of forcible touching, sexual abuse in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child, all class A misdemeanors under New York State law.

He was arraigned at Schodack Justice Court by Judge Ryan Mullahy and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility.

Bail was set at $10,000 cash, $10,000 insurance company bail bond, or $50,000 partially secured surety bond.
