FONDA — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of more than 70 grams of cocaine, state police said.
Alexander Rivera, 45, of Amsterdam, and Amanda Giblin, 37, of Fonda, were arrested April 4 following an early morning traffic stop on East Main Street in Fonda.
Troopers stopped a vehicle at about 4:04 a.m. for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation.
The driver, later identified as Rivera, provided false identifying information but was later determined to have an active warrant for his arrest.
After taking Rivera into custody, police identified Giblin as the passenger.
The investigation located felony narcotics among Giblin’s personal belongings, leading to her arrest.
A further search of the vehicle discovered drug paraphernalia and more than 70 grams of a substance that field tested positive for cocaine.
Rivera faces multiple charges including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fifth degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, False Personation, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
Giblin was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fifth degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.
Both suspects were transported to SP Fonda for processing and arraigned at the Mohawk Town Court.
Giblin was released on her own recognizance, while Rivera was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
