NEW HARTFORD — A registered sex offender who was spotted on New Hartford School District property has been banned from the premises following a joint investigation by police and school officials.
Officers from both the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions determined that while the individual is a registered sex offender, previous restrictions under New York State law no longer prohibited their presence at the time of the incident.
Despite the legal technicality, the New Hartford Central School District Administration decided to prohibit the individual from being on school district property in the future.
The police department worked with school officials to implement the ban.
Both organizations emphasized that their coordinated response demonstrates their commitment to student, faculty and staff safety.
The school district has issued a separate statement regarding the incident.
