SCHENECTADY — Two heavily fortified homes in Schenectady were raided Wednesday as part of an investigation into illicit cannabis sales, police said.

The Schenectady Police Department’s Special Operations Squad and Special Investigations Unit, with assistance from the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team, executed search warrants at 1521 Devine Street and 542 Schenectady Street around 5 p.m. on April 2.

Both homes were found to have reinforced windows, doorways and access points designed to prevent entry, according to police.

Officers arrested two Schenectady residents and seized what they described as a significant amount of illicit cannabis from both locations.

Eric M. Saunders, 29, was charged with criminal possession of cannabis in the first degree, a class D felony.

James C. Newsom, 26, faces charges of criminal possession of cannabis in the second degree, a class E felony.
