RUMFORD — A Rumford man was arrested Wednesday on multiple felony drug charges after police executed a search warrant at his Pine Street residence, where two young children were found living in unsafe conditions.
Alexander Taylor Kubesh, 33, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine, along with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The search warrant was executed at approximately 3:30 p.m. at 244 Pine Street as part of an ongoing investigation into unlawful firearms possession and drug trafficking.
Officers from the Rumford Police Department were assisted by the Norway Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
Kubesh, described by police as a multi-state offender, has previous convictions in Maine for disorderly conduct, violating bail, felony trafficking in scheduled drugs, and probation violation.
Police said they found “severely unsanitary and unsafe” living conditions inside the home, posing significant health and safety risks to two children, ages 4 and 5, as well as two young dogs.
The Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective Services took emergency custody of the children, while the Rumford Animal Control Officer took custody of the dogs.
During the search, officers recovered gram quantities of crack cocaine and fentanyl, a small quantity of methamphetamine, and several pounds of processed marijuana.
No firearms were found during the search, according to police.
Kubesh was transported to the Oxford County Jail in South Paris and is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to work with the prosecutor’s office and other agencies to determine whether additional charges are warranted.
