MIDDLETOWN — A 31-year-old Wurtsboro man was critically injured Tuesday evening when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Dolson Avenue, according to State Police.

Troopers from State Police Greenville responded to the scene at approximately 8:45 p.m. on April 1 after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Dolson Avenue and County Route 78.

Investigators determined that a 2014 Mazda driven by Nancy A. Zitzmann, 64, of Middletown, was traveling north on Dolson Avenue with a green light when the collision occurred.

The pedestrian was walking east across the crosswalk when Zitzmann failed to yield the right of way and struck him head-on, according to police.

Zitzmann remained at the scene and called for assistance.

First responders performed life-saving measures before the victim was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center.

The man was later transferred by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries.

The pedestrian remains in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing, and State Police are asking anyone with information to contact State Police Middletown at (845) 344-5300.
