NORTON — Norton police are searching for a woman who stole a pickup truck while accompanied by a young child Thursday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle theft near 110 West Main Street at approximately 10 a.m. on April 3.

The victim told police that a female suspect entered his parked white Ford pickup truck with a young child and drove away from the scene.

Investigators identified the suspect as someone known to the Norton Police Department and a legal guardian of the child.

A Norton police officer later spotted the stolen vehicle traveling north on Mansfield Avenue toward Mansfield.

When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect refused to comply, increased speed and began driving erratically near 250 Mansfield Avenue.

Norton police terminated the pursuit before reaching the Mansfield town line.

Shortly afterward, Foxboro Police and Massachusetts State Police located the vehicle and attempted another stop, which led to a pursuit.

The incident remains under investigation, and the suspect will be facing multiple pending charges.
