DOVER — A woman has been charged with abuse of corpse after allegedly failing to report the death of her roommate who was found deceased in their apartment, Dover Police announced Thursday.
Maria Campbell, 37, was charged on April 2 with violating New Hampshire RSA 644:7 – Abuse of Corpse, a Class A misdemeanor, according to Chief William Breault of the Dover Police Department.
The charge stems from an investigation that began on February 11 when detectives responded to 1 Westgate Drive after a third party discovered and reported that Evan Post, 41, had died in the apartment he shared with Campbell.
Investigators determined that Post had been deceased for several days while Campbell remained in the apartment without reporting his death to authorities.
Preliminary findings indicate Post likely died from a drug overdose, though official cause and manner of death are still pending toxicology results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Under New Hampshire law, individuals are required to report a death or the discovery of a deceased person to local law enforcement.
Campbell is scheduled to appear in the 7th Circuit Court – District Division – Dover on May 5 at 8:30 a.m.
