NEWBURGH — A community member’s alert call to police led to the arrest of two men on drug and burglary charges early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 12:09 a.m. on April 2, the City of Newburgh Police Department received a report of a burglary in progress near Third Street and Johnston Street.
Officers quickly responded to the scene where the caller provided information directing them toward a suspect’s location.
Officer Palermo attempted to stop the suspect, who fled on foot, leading officers in a brief pursuit before Officer Borden apprehended Christian Pagan-Rosario, 42, of Newburgh.
The community member helped police identify a second suspect in the area, Ryan Leak, 51, of Hawthorne, New Jersey.
Leak also fled when approached by Officer Fayo and Officer Palermo but was later found hiding on the second floor of a deck after officers established a perimeter.
Pagan-Rosario was found in possession of 31 grams of crack cocaine, 21 grams of heroin/fentanyl, 1.4 grams of cocaine, and 1.1 grams of heroin, according to police.
Additional narcotics were discovered in Pagan-Rosario’s possession during transport, police said.
Pagan-Rosario was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the third degree, a class B felony.
Leak, who police said is on parole for second-degree burglary, was found with burglar’s tools and charged with Possession of Burglar’s Tools, a class A misdemeanor.
