BINGHAMTON — The Broome County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Response Group (SRG) made 92 arrests and issued 209 traffic tickets during the first quarter of 2025, according to Sheriff Fred Akshar.

The results were released Wednesday as part of the sheriff’s targeted public safety and crime response initiative conducted across Broome County from January 1 to April 1.

“Regardless of where you are in Broome County, you deserve to feel safe,” said Sheriff Akshar.

The initiative targeted various zones in the county, including areas coinciding with the nationally recognized Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) program aimed at reducing shootings and firearm-related crime.

The first quarter arrests included 31 narcotics arrests, 24 warrant arrests, 2 weapon arrests, 18 vehicle and traffic arrests, and 17 other penal law arrests.

Deputies conducted 254 traffic stops resulting in the 209 violations issued.

Since the SRG’s full-time activation in mid-June 2024, the unit has made over 440 arrests across Broome County, conducted more than 1,183 traffic stops, and issued over 1,000 traffic violations.

The SRG team uses statistical and crime-mapping data from the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center to identify and respond to “hot spots” throughout the county.

The unit focuses on quality-of-life issues including areas with high numbers of speeding vehicles, repeated narcotic activities, persistent calls for service, and gun and gang-related violence.
