NEW BERLIN — New York State Police arrested a local man after responding to reports of shots fired in the village of New Berlin on March 30 at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Joseph R. Avery, 39, of New Berlin, allegedly discharged a firearm unsafely within village limits with the intention of intimidating another person, according to police.
Troopers located Avery at his residence and took him into custody without incident.
Avery faces multiple charges including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C felony; first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony; second-degree stalking, a class E felony; and prohibited use of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Following processing at the State Police barracks in Norwich, Avery was transported to the Chenango County Correctional Facility for centralized arraignment.
