SAUGERTIES — Police arrested a 35-year-old man Monday night after he allegedly fled the scene of a shooting incident at a village intersection.
John P. R. Jones of Saugerties was charged with menacing in the second degree following the incident that began around 9:42 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Partition Street.
Ulster County 911 and the Saugerties Police Department received multiple calls reporting a subject shot with a head wound at the location.
When police arrived, Jones fled north on Partition Street towards Lafayette Street and entered a residence.
Officers established a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with Jones, but received no response.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, members of the Ulster County Emergency Response Team entered the residence and found Jones suffering from facial wounds.
Investigators determined that an .68-caliber CO2 powered “defense pistol” designed to shoot less-lethal projectiles was the reported firearm.
No other individuals were injured during the incident.
Jones was transported to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston by Diaz Ambulance where he was treated and released back into police custody.
He was arraigned in Central Arraignment Part Court and released on his own recognizance to appear in the Village of Saugerties Justice Court at a later date.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
