NEWPORT — Memphremagog Community Maritime will launch its science and education center with an Earth Day open house on April 22 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Memphremagog Science & Education Center (MemSEC), located upstairs in the Gateway Center at Newport Marina, provides year-round environmental education focused on Lake Memphremagog and its watershed.
“We are incredibly excited to finally open our doors to the community,” said MemSEC Director John Aldridge. “MemSEC is designed to be a hub for learning and exploration, providing resources and opportunities for people of all ages to connect with Lake Memphremagog in meaningful ways.”
Visitors can explore interpretive panels, interactive stations, and learn about upcoming sailing programs on the Northern Star vessel.
“This Earth Day, we invite everyone to come and discover how MemSEC is working to promote exploration, discovery, appreciation, and stewardship for our local ecosystem,” said Douglas Casson Coutts, MCM education chair and MemSEC founder.
The center was established with support from the Vermont Better Places program at the Vermont Community Foundation, along with local donors.
