FALL RIVER — A routine traffic stop Tuesday led to the arrest of a 43-year-old man on multiple drug charges after he allegedly fled from officers on foot.
Officers Brandon Antone and James Mello of the Fall River Police Department’s Patrol Bureau conducted a motor vehicle stop at approximately 2 p.m. when the driver, later identified as Miguel Saavedra, suddenly exited his vehicle.
Officers ordered Saavedra to return to his vehicle, but he allegedly ignored their commands and fled the scene.
Following a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended Saavedra a short distance away.
During a search of the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered approximately 19.5 grams of a white substance believed to be crack cocaine and 81 blue glassine bags containing a substance believed to be fentanyl.
Officers also recovered drug distribution paraphernalia, including a digital scale and a box of plastic sandwich bags.
Saavedra was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a Class A substance (fentanyl), and other motor vehicle infractions.
