WEYMOUTH — A Weymouth man was arrested Monday night after allegedly threatening store personnel with a knife following a shoplifting incident at a local Stop & Shop.
Officers responded to the grocery store at 700 Middle Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 31, according to the Weymouth Police Department.
Loss prevention staff reported that a male suspect had shoplifted merchandise and, when confronted outside the store, made threatening statements about having a knife before fleeing in a black sedan.
Police quickly located and stopped the suspect vehicle near 789 Middle Street.
The driver, identified as Brian Pettiford, 58, of 66 Fountain Lane, Weymouth, was detained without incident.
Officers recovered multiple knives from the vehicle during their search, including a black folding knife on the passenger floorboard.
Pettiford was arrested and charged with armed robbery and shoplifting by concealment.
He was held on $5,000 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today at Quincy District Court.
