Rhode Island police make multiple arrests in late March sweep

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island law enforcement agencies arrested multiple individuals on various charges during the final days of March, according to police reports.

On March 28, members of the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested Bryan Anderson, 27, of Johnston, Rhode Island, for Possession of Child Pornography.

Anderson was processed at State Police Headquarters and arraigned in Third District Court, where Associate Judge O’Neill set bail at $5,000 with surety and special conditions including restricted internet access and no unsupervised contact with minors.

The same day, the ACI Investigations Unit made five arrests, including Xavier Apuzzie, 29, of Providence; Mark Jennings, 38, of Providence; Steven Velasquez, 31, of Pawtucket; Michael Dwinnell, 34, of Glocester; and Jesse Roy, 35, of Lincoln.

Apuzzie, Dwinnell, and Roy were each charged with Domestic – Violation of No Contact, while Jennings and Velasquez were arrested as Fugitives from Justice from Massachusetts.

Also on March 28, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Maliek Sostre, 25, of Woonsocket, on multiple bench warrants for failure to appear in court.

The Gaming Enforcement Unit arrested two Massachusetts residents at a Rhode Island venue: Jesse Spano, 31, for Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance – Fentanyl, and Michael Spano, 33, for Willful Trespassing.

Anthony Medina, 35, of Woonsocket, was arrested by the Violent Fugitive Task Force for Violation of a No Contact Order, Third Offense.

Cesar Acosta Pena, 50, of Providence, was arrested by the HIDTA Task Force on multiple charges including possession of a firearm while committing a controlled substance violation and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

On March 31, the Financial Crimes Unit arrested Michael O’Toole, 28, of Foster, on charges including obtaining property by false pretenses, forgery, and larceny.

The same unit arrested Yafriesy Espinal, 27, of Providence, for obtaining property by false pretenses over $10,000, giving false documents to a public official, and fraudulently obtaining public assistance.

The Violent Fugitive Task Force made two additional arrests on March 31: Lenin Gutierrez, 52, of Cranston, on a federal warrant for bail violation, and Jordan F. Oliveira, 27, of Providence, for abuse/neglect of an adult with severe impairments.
