MALTA — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash on U.S. Route 9 in the town of Malta Monday at 1:48 a.m.

Investigation into the crash resulted in the arrest of Ryan M. Gerhard, 38, of Voorheesville, for DWI (class E felony), obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree (class A misdemeanor), refusal to take a breath test, and failure to use designated lane (infractions).

Gerhard is accused of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

The DWI charge was elevated to a felony due to a previous DWI conviction within the preceding 10 years.

He is also accused of refusing to submit to a pre-screen alcohol test and of not allowing his photograph and fingerprints to be taken during the booking process.

Gerhard was arraigned in front of the Honorable Ellwood A. Sloat Jr. in the Malta Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail pending further proceedings.
