CORTLAND — Officers from the Cortland Police Department arrested two suspects following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that began early Monday morning.

At approximately 6:25 a.m. on March 31, a patrol sergeant observed a gray Jeep matching the description of a vehicle reported stolen the previous day.

The sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled at high speeds through city streets, ignoring traffic laws.

The pursuit continued down railroad tracks off of South Main Street before the suspects abandoned the vehicle in a driveway on Randall Street and fled on foot.

Officers located surveillance footage confirming the suspects’ descriptions and apprehended Chad Cain, 40, near Grace Church on Court Street at approximately 11 a.m. Monday.

Lisa Walker, 31, who was the passenger in the stolen vehicle, was located Tuesday and taken into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant for larceny.

Cain faces multiple charges including criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, criminal trespass, obstructing governmental administration and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.

Walker has been charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

Cain was arraigned in Cortland City Court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail, while Walker was awaiting arraignment at the police department.

The investigation remains ongoing.
