WETHERSFIELD — A Wethersfield police officer rescued a driver trapped in a burning vehicle following a two-car collision at the intersection of Berlin Turnpike and Pawtucket Avenue early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. when officers responded to reports of an accident involving an Infiniti Q70 that was fully engulfed in flames with the driver trapped inside.

Officer Farrell broke the window of the burning Infiniti and pulled the driver to safety, according to police.

Both the Infiniti driver and the operator of the second vehicle, an Audi Q8, were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators determined the Infiniti was traveling northbound on Berlin Turnpike when it disregarded a traffic signal and collided with the Audi, which was traveling southbound and attempting to turn eastbound onto Pawtucket Avenue.

The Infiniti driver was issued an infraction for traveling unreasonably fast and failure to obey a control signal.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
