Johnson City man released after allegedly threatening family with knife

JOHNSON CITY — A 32-year-old Johnson City man was released following arraignment after allegedly threatening to kill family members with a knife during a domestic dispute early Monday morning.

Officers responded to a residence in the Village of Johnson City at approximately 4:00 a.m. on March 31 after receiving reports of a domestic dispute involving an intoxicated male armed with a knife.

According to police, the suspect broke down a locked bedroom door where one adult family member and two young children had taken shelter.

The man allegedly threatened to kill the occupants of the room.

Police arrived while the incident was still in progress and took the suspect into custody without further incident.

No injuries were reported by any of the parties involved.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the victims’ identities, faces multiple charges including criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, three counts of menacing in the second degree, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

All charges are class A misdemeanors under New York State law.

Following processing, the suspect was taken to central arraignment and subsequently released in compliance with New York State bail reform laws.
