BROOKFIELD — The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that two people found dead in a parked car on VT Route 14 died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Lynn Gilman, 59, and Burton Richardson, 63, both of Rochester, were found unresponsive in a grey Hyundai Elantra on Feb. 14 at approximately 9:25 p.m.
The medical examiner classified their deaths as accidental from the inhalation of automobile exhaust.
State police responded to the scene after receiving a report of a vehicle that had been parked on the shoulder of VT Route 14 for an extended period of time.
Troopers found the vehicle just north of the intersection with Brown Drive.
Gilman was located in the driver’s seat and Richardson in the front passenger seat.
Barre Town Rescue responded but both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations conducted a death investigation, initially stating there was no indication of suspicious circumstances.
