COLCHESTER — A New York man was arrested on felony charges after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen pickup truck in December.
Richard Lee of Frankfurt, NY, was charged with possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony, according to the Colchester Police Department.
On Dec. 20, 2024, Colchester Police responded to a report of a male subject walking down State Highway 17 near the Cooks Falls exit.
An officer located an abandoned 2010 Dodge Ram pickup truck on the side of the roadway near the exit.
The officer continued down the highway and found Lee walking in the area of the Horton on-ramp.
Lee was initially released that night as the vehicle was not known to be stolen at the time.
During a subsequent investigation with assistance from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, authorities determined the vehicle had been stolen from Ellenville, NY, on Dec. 20.
An arrest warrant was then issued by the Town of Colchester Court.
On March 28, New York State Police informed Colchester Police they had Lee in custody on the warrant.
Lee was transferred to Colchester Police custody and transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment in Central Arraignment.
He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.
