EAST MEREDITH — Delaware County District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced that a grand jury has returned a nine-count indictment against Alex S. Young, 19, of East Meredith, on March 27.
Young faces two counts of first-degree rape, a Class B felony, for allegedly engaging in forcible sexual contact with a person on Feb. 5 and Feb. 14.
The indictment also includes four counts of second-degree rape, a Class D felony, involving victims under the age of 15.
Young is further charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child, a Class E felony, for allegedly having material containing sexual conduct by a child under 16 in early January.
Additional charges include aggravated sexual abuse in the third degree, a Class D felony, for an alleged incident in October 2024, and sexual abuse in the second degree, a Class A misdemeanor, involving a victim under 14 in late January.
The identities of the victims are being withheld in accordance with office policy regarding minors.
Young appeared for arraignment in Delaware County Court on March 28, where Acting County Court Judge Gary Rosa set bail at $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash.
District Attorney Smith commended Senior Investigator Christopher Erwin and Investigator Cody Tromblee of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation, and acknowledged Safe Against Violence for providing support to the victims.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Richard D. Northrup Jr. presented the case to the grand jury.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
