Cambridge police continue search for woman missing since 2020

CAMBRIDGE — Five years after Mitchel Iviquel was last seen by her family, Cambridge Police Department detectives are still working to locate the Army veteran who was believed to be unhoused in the Central Square area.

Iviquel was last confirmed to have been seen in March 2020 at a family member’s home in Somerville.

Although she had been unhoused since 2013, Iviquel would typically contact family members every two to three months.

When she hadn’t made contact for an extended period in 2020, concerned family members first searched on their own before filing a missing person report with Cambridge police in March 2021.

The case was assigned to the department’s Criminal Investigations Section, but despite pursuing various leads over the years, detectives have been unable to locate Iviquel.

“It’s very difficult, because we literally have zero leads,” CPD Superintendent Pauline Wells said during a 2023 interview.

“She had VA benefits that she has not taken advantage of. She has no EBT card. There is literally no trace of where she may have gone.”

Iviquel is described as a Black female, currently 47 years old, standing 5 feet 3 inches tall.

When last seen, she weighed approximately 125 pounds with a small build and had black hair.

Investigators believe Iviquel may have been traveling with an unidentified Black man and his daughter, who was approximately 6 to 8 years old in 2020.

Both father and daughter were deaf, and Iviquel communicated with them through sign language.

Anyone with information about Iviquel’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit Tip Line at 617-349-3121.
