2 juveniles arrested in Lewis County burglary spree

PORT LEYDEN — Two juveniles have been arrested following a string of burglaries and thefts in Lewis County, according to New York State Police.

The teens, ages 13 and 15, face multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing from vehicles and storage units between March 17-19 in the Port Leyden and Lyons Falls areas.

Investigators from the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at SP Lowville and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint investigation leading to the arrests.

The juveniles are accused of entering numerous unlocked vehicles parked at residences during late night and early morning hours.

They also allegedly broke into several storage units at Shue Box Storage on State Route 12 in Port Leyden.

According to police, the teens stole two handguns and a motor vehicle from a Port Leyden residence.

The stolen vehicle was involved in a rollover crash on State Route 12 in Martinsburg, with the juveniles fleeing the scene before troopers arrived.

Each juvenile faces three counts of grand larceny 4th degree, seven counts of petit larceny, two counts of burglary 3rd degree, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree.

The teens were issued appearance tickets for family court.
