VALLEY STREAM — The Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department responded to a basement fire at a home on Charles Court at 1:20 p.m. today, where they rescued one resident who was still inside the building.

Chief Anthony Capone reported smoke showing from the front door upon arrival at the scene.

First arriving units, including Engine 343 and Ladder 346, along with Nassau County Police Department officers, assisted one resident out of the home while firefighters located the fire in the basement.

A Signal 10, indicating a working fire, was transmitted, bringing mutual aid from surrounding departments to the scene.

The fire, which originated in the basement and extended to the first floor through a pipe chase, required two hand lines to extinguish.

Three civilians were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
