ROCKLAND — A 39-year-old transient man was arrested Friday in connection with a string of vandalism incidents that caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to homes and vehicles in Rockland’s south end.

Devon McMahan faces a felony charge of aggravated criminal mischief following an investigation into 11 separate vandalism cases reported on March 21.

Rockland police spent several days interviewing victims and reviewing video evidence before identifying McMahan as a suspect.

The vandalism incidents all occurred within a short time frame in the city’s south end, according to police.

McMahan was already on bail for a prior assault charge stemming from what police described as an unprovoked assault on a law enforcement officer.

As of Friday at 3 p.m., McMahan remained in custody at the Knox County Jail.
