LEWISTON — Police arrested a Pennsylvania fugitive on March 27 after an extensive investigation into a gunshot fired in downtown Lewiston earlier this month.

Terrell Humphrey, 40, of Scranton, Pa., faces multiple charges including reckless conduct with a firearm after police identified him as the suspect who fired a handgun into the air at the intersection of Ash and Howe streets.

The incident began when officers responded to reports of a gunshot heard in the area at approximately 1:15 a.m. on March 14.

Responding officers initially found no evidence of a shooting during their search of the area.

Investigators later reviewed “countless hours” of surveillance footage before locating video of a suspect firing a handgun into the air, according to the Lewiston Police Department.

Detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division tracked the suspect’s movements throughout the city using both public and private surveillance cameras.

Police discovered Humphrey was in Lewiston attempting to evade an extraditable warrant from Pennsylvania.

Humphrey has been charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, being a fugitive from justice, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He remains at the Androscoggin County Jail and is expected to be extradited back to Pennsylvania.
