Pennsylvania man arrested in Colchester on weapons, drug charges

COLCHESTER — A Pennsylvania man faces multiple felony charges after Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies discovered methamphetamine and an illegal firearm during a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Steven Caiati, 45, of Starlight, Pennsylvania, was initially pulled over on State Highway 206 for not wearing a seat belt at approximately 8:30 p.m. on March 19.

Deputies determined Caiati was driving while impaired by drugs and took him into custody, according to Sheriff Craig S. DuMond.

A search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine and a firearm with a high-capacity magazine, which Caiati, as a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing.

Caiati faces multiple charges including criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony; and tampering with physical evidence, also a Class E felony.

Additional charges include driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operator in the third degree, and several vehicle and traffic violations including no seat belt, uninspected motor vehicle, and unlicensed operator.

Following processing, Caiati was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
