WEBSTER — A Webster police officer received a commendation after helping deliver a baby at a local residence on March 19.

Officer Melissa Bak was responding to another call when she diverted to assist a 37-year-old woman in labor after the South Worcester County Communication Center received a 911 call reporting the woman was having contractions.

Upon arrival, Bak found the woman in advanced labor, reporting that she could see the baby’s head.

Moments later, Bak announced over the radio that the baby had been delivered successfully.

This marked the first time Officer Bak had assisted with childbirth.

Bak and paramedics from Webster EMS worked together to ensure a positive outcome for what officials described as a high-risk pregnancy in a home setting.

For her actions, Bak received a Letter of Commendation recognizing her professionalism and calm demeanor during the stressful situation.
