NCSU student scientists and engineers shine at state competition

NEWPORT –– North Country Supervisory Union (NCSU) student scientists and engineers showcased their talents at the Vermont State Science and Engineering Fair (VSSEF) on March 16 at Norwich University, bringing home top honors and making their communities proud.

Six of the eight winners from the 2025 North Country Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF) continued their success at the state level, earning additional recognition for their outstanding projects. Their achievements highlight the dedication, creativity, and problem-solving skills that will shape the future of science and technology.

“These students went above and beyond to demonstrate the very best of North Country,” said Aaron Miller, NCSU STEM Instructional Coach. “Their hard work and innovation reflect the bright future we want for all of our students. Congratulations to these incredible young scientists and engineers!”

NCSU says a special thank you goes to the educators who guided these students on their journey, particularly their science teachers: Jenn Blay of Lowell Graded School, Louise Beaudry of Charleston Elementary School, Jess Tetreault of North Country Union Junior High, and Sydney Vanier of Jay/Westfield Joint Elementary. Their commitment to fostering curiosity and scientific inquiry is instrumental in shaping the next generation of innovators.

Silver Medalist: Recognizing projects ranked in the top 10% to 30% in any grade level:
Ila Emery, Jay/Westfield Joint Elementary School

Ted Marsden Memorial Award: The Marsden Award is a prize of $50 to each member of the best middle school group project:
John Totten and Molly Hack, North Country Union Junior High School

Viatris Awards for Excellence: For projects at any grade level that show a high level of creativity and scientific rigor. All winners receive a certificate and a $100 cash prize:
Karly King, Lowell Graded School

New Hampshire Academy of Science: The NHAS supports students in Vermont and New Hampshire to perform original research in an advanced research lab near Dartmouth College:

Hannah Sanville, Charleston Elementary School
