NORWICH — New York State Police arrested a McDonough man on multiple felony charges following an investigation into inappropriate communications with a juvenile.
Evan E. Eldred, 24, was taken into custody on March 25 after authorities executed a search warrant at his residence.
The arrest stemmed from information received in June 2023 from a Virginia police agency reporting that an adult male had sent sexually explicit images and solicited a juvenile.
During the search of Eldred’s home, police discovered five assault rifles and high-capacity magazines that allegedly violated New York’s SAFE Act.
Eldred faces five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for the assault rifles and four counts for large capacity ammunition feeding devices, all class D felonies.
Additional charges include first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Following arraignment at Norwich City Court, Eldred was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail, $15,000 credit card, $50,000 insurance company bail bond and/or $75,000 partially secured bond with 10% deposit.
The investigation involved the Norwich Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Sidney Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce.
