Man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — Vermont State Police arrested a New Hampshire man on multiple drug charges following a traffic stop on US Route 7 near Dog Team Road.

Paul A. Neilson, 56, of Lisbon, New Hampshire, was stopped by troopers at approximately 9:59 p.m. on March 24 after they observed a motor vehicle violation.

During the interaction, troopers noticed signs of impairment and conducted a DUI screening.

Neilson was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI – Drug.

While searching Neilson during the arrest, troopers discovered 2.5 grams of fentanyl on his person.

Neilson was transported to the Vergennes Police Department for processing and later released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division on June 9 at 12:30 p.m.

Three days later, on March 27, troopers executed a search warrant on Neilson’s vehicle, where they found methamphetamine and cocaine.

The Vermont State Police were assisted by members of the Vergennes Police Department, Middlebury Police Department, and MiddState Towing.

Neilson was also cited for “Driving On Roadways Laned For Traffic” under 23 VSA 1038, which carries a fine of $220 and 2 points.
