BATH — A Bath man was arrested Thursday after allegedly throwing burning rubbish from a second-floor window and threatening to harm others.
Village of Bath police officers responded to 56 Liberty Street around 7:16 p.m. after receiving reports of burning rubbish on the sidewalk.
Bystanders told police that a man on the second floor had thrown the burning materials out of the window while making threatening statements.
A bystander extinguished the fire before first responders arrived at the scene.
Officers made contact with Dominick Hawley, 28, of Bath, and placed him under arrest following their investigation.
Police said Hawley immediately became combative, resisted officers, and assaulted a Bath police officer during the arrest.
Hawley was charged with Attempted Arson in the second degree, a class C felony; Making a Terroristic Threat, a class D felony; and Assault in the second degree, a class D felony.
After being treated and released at a local hospital, Hawley was transported to the Steuben County Jail where he is being held on bail.
