WALTON — Two men face felony drug charges after Delaware County sheriff’s deputies discovered cocaine, ecstasy and other drugs during a traffic stop at a local gas station on March 11.
Sheriff Craig DuMond said deputies at the Speedway gas station in Walton observed a vehicle being operated with an open container of alcohol in plain view.
After interviewing the occupants, deputies conducted a search with K9 Dexter that uncovered a large quantity of cocaine, buprenorphine, ecstasy and other pills, along with multiple open containers of alcohol.
Maxwell Kaufman, 24, of Downsville, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony; four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, class A misdemeanors; and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Treyton Hathaway, 24, of Oneonta, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Both men were also issued traffic summonses for consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Following processing, both suspects were transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
Kaufman was released on his own recognizance while Hathaway remained in custody pending further proceedings.
