WINDSOR LOCKS — A 20-year-old cold case murder has led to an arrest after Windsor Locks detectives reopened the investigation, police announced Wednesday.

Mohammad Ali, 38, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested on March 26 in Dublin, Ohio, by U.S. Marshals and is awaiting extradition to Connecticut.

Ali faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and accessory to murder in connection with the 2005 killing of Mureed Hussain, 35, of New York.

On the morning of Feb. 9, 2005, Windsor Locks police officers discovered Hussain’s body at the intersection of South Main Street and School Street.

Investigators determined Hussain had been shot and killed, but despite efforts by Windsor Locks detectives and State Police, the case eventually went cold.

In February 2024, Windsor Locks detectives reopened the homicide investigation, utilizing advancements in forensic technology and re-examining evidence seized in 2005.

With assistance from the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office, Connecticut State Police, the state’s forensic lab in Meriden, and the New York City Police Department, detectives developed suspects and secured an arrest warrant for Ali.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing with additional suspects developed, but no further details are being released at this time.
