MIDDLEBOROUGH — An 83-year-old woman reported missing Thursday morning was found deceased in a wooded area later that day, according to local authorities.
Police Chief Robert Ferreira and Fire Chief Owen Thompson announced that the woman’s body was discovered in a shallow body of water Thursday afternoon.
The search began after a neighbor requested a welfare check on the elderly resident.
Multiple agencies participated in the search effort, including Middleborough Police, Middleborough Fire, the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC), Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, and Department of Conservation & Recreation.
A State Police K9 unit ultimately located the woman’s body.
While authorities do not immediately suspect foul play, the death remains under investigation by the Middleborough Police Department and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
