MASSENA — A Massena woman was arrested on charges of grand larceny and forgery after allegedly cashing checks intended for a deceased family member.
Michelle L. Trombly, 41, was arrested March 25 by New York State Police and charged with grand larceny in the third degree and forgery in the second degree.
The investigation began March 6 at 12:15 p.m. when the New York State Department of Financial Services notified State Police that Trombly was allegedly stealing money from the New York State Insurance Fund.
Investigators discovered Trombly had been receiving checks issued to a deceased family member by the New York State Department of Financial Services.
According to police, she forged the deceased family member’s signature on the checks before cashing them.
Trombly was processed at the State Police station in Massena and arraigned in the Town of Massena Court.
She was released on her own recognizance.
