GENESEO — A Charlotte, North Carolina resident faces felony charges after a traffic stop on Interstate 390 led to the discovery of nearly 100 stolen gift cards and a large amount of U.S. currency.
Rashee Massey, 29, turned himself in at Geneseo Town Court on March 25 following a two-month investigation that began with a routine traffic stop.
According to Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, Deputy Jerry Pilkenton observed a vehicle violating New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law while traveling southbound on Interstate 390 on January 22 at approximately 10 p.m.
During the stop, the deputy suspected criminal activity and conducted a search of the vehicle, uncovering the gift cards and cash.
The items were secured for further investigation, and the occupants were initially released.
Subsequent investigation revealed the gift cards were stolen, leading to arrest warrants for the individuals involved.
Massey has been charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree, a felony.
He was arraigned at Geneseo Court by Justice Houston and released on his own recognizance, as the offense does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Massey at the arraignment, while the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office represented the People.
Sheriff Dougherty indicated that additional arrests are pending in this case.
