SPRINGFIELD — Two people have been arrested on animal cruelty charges after authorities seized 22 animals from properties in Springfield, according to New York State Police.
Brian J. Fleming, 64, and Theresa E. Fleming, 61, both of Springfield, were arrested on March 25 at the State Police barracks in Richfield Springs.
Each faces 11 counts of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance, a misdemeanor under the Agriculture and Markets Law.
They have also each been charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, a class E felony.
The arrests followed a Feb. 27 search warrant execution at multiple properties on State Highway 80 in Springfield.
During the search, authorities removed eight dogs, 13 cats and one turtle that were observed to be in need of immediate medical care.
All animals were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA.
The Flemings are scheduled to appear in Springfield Town Court on April 3.
